Hopelessness, fear and isolation

Hatred and manipulation
There is no one else to blame
For the person you've become

You tried to steal our joy
You tried to drag us down with you
You tried to take away our happiness
But you failed
Through all of this, we've see the best in humanity
Through all the darkness we've seen light
Through all the pain we've found our healing

But in the end, reality can't be tamed

Nor fall for deceitful words

Can your voices cover up
The way existence works?
Does your narcissism
Save you from your conscience?
To be followed like a god,
With contempt for the voice of truth
The truth is a threat that you will not escape
You'll stop at nothing to postpone what has to be
With enough charisma,
You can convince the masses that water is not wet
If you speak boldly,
You can convince a perfectly healthy man
That he can no longer see
But no matter how many people you fool,
Or how many dissenters you silence,
You cannot manipulate reality
You can spew as much nonsense as you want,
Converting as many people as you want,
But the truth will still be waiting for you in your grave
The truth prevails when all else fades
Love prevails when hatred pretends to triumph
There is no refuge
There is no escape
But to live in truth

And so I'm left with these questions in my mind
An attempt to reconcile the truth with what I'd hoped for
To see a transformation of darkness into light
But to see the light used to manipulate and abuse the weakest
I haven't been swayed by aggressive words
From outsiders looking in
And I don't care what the enemy is rallying around
All I know is what I've heard from the horse's mouth
So is it faith, to expect blessings for your pride?
Is it love, to rejoice in other's pain?
Is it joy, to complain that others prosper?
Is it hope, to proclaim the doom of all?
The horse's mouth speaks of hatred and destruction
The horse's mouth has no reverence for the words it preaches
The horse's mouth seeks to magnify its image
To gain a following and become the golden calf

The endless toil
Has never gone away
And I've grown to understand
That it's a part of who I am
Clinging to naive zealous values
Has led me here
The search for meaning
Has left me self-absorbed
I've given up on impressing those of faith
Who seek to prove their own supremacy
With standards that can't be met
The God I've come to know
Cares not where you've been
He doesn't care just how you got there,
He only care's that you're home
I am nothing but a fool
Stumbling over my own shadow
Yet I claim to know the answers
To questions hidden through all time
I am a vapor that thinks to highly of itself
